How Ceramic Glaze Colour Development Works for Brands
A ceramic glaze is a fired material, not digital paint. Lighting, clay body, firing and application can create natural variation, so successful color development starts with a realistic production target.
Use a reference, not only a screen value
Pantone, physical samples and clear visual references are helpful starting points, but fired glaze may not reproduce a digital color exactly. The goal is an approved ceramic direction that can be repeated within agreed production tolerance.
Approve the surface as well as the color
Gloss, satin, opacity, speckle, movement and edge behavior can change how a color is perceived. Review the complete surface, not only the hue.
Keep repeat orders consistent
Once a color direction is approved, production notes and retained references help guide future batches. Handmade and fired ceramic will still show natural variation, which should be communicated to the retail customer.
